 Wisden’s Leading Cricketer

Scored 1215 Test runs in 2016

India cricket team skipper Virat Kolhi was named Wisden’s Leading Cricketer in the World for 2016.

Kohli scored 1215 Test runs at a brilliant average of 75.93 last year. His 10 ODI appearances fetched him 739 runs at 92.37, while he scored 641 T20 International runs at 106.83.

Rail Development Authority

Parameters of the Railway Act, 1989.

The Union Cabinet has cleared approved setting up an independent rail regulator, named Rail Development Authority (RDA).

It will be based in Delhi and will be set up through an executive order.It will act within the parameters of the Railway Act, 1989.

It will only make recommendations to the Railway Ministry Suresh Prabhu.

India ranks 9th among 41 countries in corruption in businesses: Survey

78% feel bribery is there

India ranks ninth among 41 countries in bribery and corrupt practices in businesses, according to the findings of a recent survey.  Nearly 78 per cent respondents queried in the country said that bribery and corrupt practices happen widely in businesses here.

Sports ministry approves appointment of Foreign Coaches in Athletics

Vijay Goel

Sports Minister Vijay Goel has approved the appointment of two foreign coaches and support staff for India’s athletics disciplines. He said that his ministry is committed to provide sportspersons with all possible help – from sports infrastructure to equipments – in helping them to prepare and participate in international competitions. The appointments were recommended by the foreign coach selection committee under the chairmanship of sports secretary.

Toni Morrison honored

American Academy of Arts and Sciences’ Emerson-Thoreau Medal.

Toni Morrison is scheduled to be presented with the American Academy of Arts and Sciences’ Emerson-Thoreau Medal.

The prize was established in 1958 and is awarded to individuals to recognize a lifetime of literary achievements.

Morrison will receive the award on April 6 at the Academy’s headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

2016 Global Slavery Index

46 million people live under conditions of slavery across

Nearly 46 million people live under conditions of slavery across the world, with 18 million (39%) of those in India.

Globally, modern slavery includes child workers in African mines, deforestation crews in the Amazon or people trapped in commercial sexual exploitation in Europe.

In India slavery is banned as per the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act 1976.

The Fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry has emerged as the highest paying industry in India with an average annual cost to company (CTC) of Rs. 11.3 lakh across all levels and functions according to Randstad survey, 2017.

Randstad is a Dutch multinational human resource consulting firm headquartered in Diemen, Netherland. Randstad is the world’s second-largest HR service provider.
