1. India is third largest target for terrorism: US State Department
A New data from the US State Department ranks India third behind Iraq and Afghanistan as a target of terrorists.
The figures indicated that India suffered 927 out of 11,072 attacks that occurred worldwide in 2016, 16% more than 2015 figures.
Surprisingly, India is also ahead of Pakistan with respect to injuries and fatalities resulting out of terror attacks.
2. Unaccounted income of Rs. 71,941 crore found: Govt. tells SC
The Income Tax (I-T) department over the past three years have detected sum of Rs. 71,941 crore of undisclosed income as reported by the government to Supreme Court.
The Finance Ministry in a detailed report to the apex court stated that an undisclosed income of more than Rs. 5,400 crore during the demonetization period was recovered.
3. ICC Women’s World Cup Finals- Ind vs Eng!
England women’s cricket team defeated Indian Women’s team by nine runs in a nail biting thriller to lift the 2017 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
Chasing 229, Indian innings started slow and lost two early wickets.
Punam Raut and Harmanpreet Kaur scored half centuries to revive Indian innings, but Anya Shrubsole destroyed Indian innings with six wickets to seal the victory for England.
4. Pranab Mukherjee thanks all Parliamentarians as he steps down
With Ram Nath Kovind set to take his post as the 14th President of India, today was Pranab Mukherjee’s last day at office.
The 13th President of India gave his last speech today at the Central Hall of the Parliament to an audience of Parliamentarians and thanked them for their support.
Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Vice-President Hamid Ansari recounted his contributions.
5. Amitabh Bachan continue as UNICEF Ambassador
Actor Amitabh Bachchan’s ambassadorship for Unicef has been extended for another two years and will be working on eradicating measles and rubella infections for children.
Amitabh, who is a tuberculosis and hepatitis B conqueror, has been associated with various health campaigns like polio, hepatitis B, tuberculosis and diabetes.
6. BCCI to introduce an IPL style tournament for women
After the Indian women’s cricket team success in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup, the BCCI is planning to introduce a new tournament for women cricketers.
The tournament is reported to be on the lines of the Indian Premier League.
A tournament like this could really change the face of women’s cricket around the world.
7. Assam to host National Handloom Day
First National Handloom Day celebrations to be hosted in Guwahati by August 7.
The ceremony will display handloom products crafted by artisans from the seven north eastern states through a fashion show and an exhibition.
The focus will be on the seven north eastern states so that each and every state is given due recognition by displaying their handloom and silk products.
8. Ex-ISRO chief UR Rao passes away
The man behind Aryabhatta and the internationally-renowned space scientist UR Rao passed away in early Monday morning.
The former ISRO chief was serving as the chairman of the governing council of the physical research laboratory and chancellor of Thiruvananthapuram’s IIST.
9. India to kick off mega submarine project soon!
After years of political and bureaucratic delays, India is finally set to kick off its mega-submarine project titled Project 75 (India), under its new Strategic Partnership Model in defence manufacturing unveiled recently.
Six countries: France, Japan, Germany, Russia, Sweden and Spain will collaborate with a selected Indian shipyard for the Rs. 70,000 crore project to co-produce advanced stealth submarines.
The projects will be implemented through Joint Ventures controlled by Indian companies, with FDI capped at 49%.
10. India to host 2017 Global Conference on Cyber Space
India will host Global Conference on Cyber Space (GCCS) 2017, the world’s largest conference on cyber space and related issues in New Delhi in November 2017. This is for the first time GCCS is taking place outside Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) nations. It will be the fifth edition the conference.
The theme for the GCCS 2017 is ‘Cyber4All: An Inclusive, Sustainable, Developmental, Safe and Secure Cyberspace‘. The cyber security will be one of the major focus areas in GCCS 2017. It will serve as a platform for the exchange of ideas with global think thanks and promote closer co-operation among the international community.
