1. Justice Dipak Mishra to be the next Chief Justice

He is the one who ordered playing of the National Anthem in movie theatres.


If sources are to be believed then Chief Justice of India, JS Khehar has formally suggested the name of Justice Dipak Mishra as his successor.
CJI Khehar whose tenure will conclude this August 27, wrote to the Centre recommending his successor’s name.
Justice Mishra would be serving as the CJI for about 14 months ending on October 2 next year.

2. 18th anniversary of Kargil conflict

The conflict was India’s first televised war


India’s military victory against Pakistan in the Kargil conflict in 1999 is celebrated on July 26.
PM Modi hailed the Indian military for its prowess and sacrifices on ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’.
“Remembering our brave soldiers who fought gallantly for the pride of our nation & the security of our citizens during the Kargil War,” Modi tweeted.

3. APJ Abdul Kalam’s memorial to be inaugurated by PM Modi

PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate a memorial dedicated to APJ Abdul Kalam in Rameswaram, the former president’s hometown and final resting place.
The memorial will reflect India’s diversity and various cultures and will pay homage to Kalam’s life, displaying replicas of rockets and missiles that the late ace scientist worked on.he second phase is expected to be complete within the next two years.The second phase of the memorial will have a library, planetarium and auditorium.

4. DD plans to replace logo

Current logo since 1959, which symbolises the human eye.


Doordarshan, the state-owned broadcaster, is planning to change its iconic logo and create something youthful in a bid to tap the “children of liberalization”, moving away from nostalgia.
According to the invitation seeking new designs, the new logo will connect and identify with the younger generation. “The new logo, while recalling the strong nostalgia associated with the DD brand, should reflect the aspirations of new India,” it said.Doordarshan operates 23 channels across the country.

5. R Ashwin set to break another record in 50th Test for India

The Indian spinner was the fastest to reach the 250 Test wickets mark when he took that wicket in the 45th match, a record which was previously held by Lillee. Now, Ashwin has 275 wickets, the most, from 49 Tests.
He also has a chance to become the fastest bowler to take 300 wickets in Test cricket, for which he needs only 25 wickets. This record is currently held by Lillee again who took 300 wickets in 56 Tests. Ashwin has six Test to take the 25 wickets and break the record.

6. Kaspersky Lab launches free antivirus software

Eugene Kaspersky, founder of Kaspersky labs, wrote in a blog post that Kaspersky Lab has launched free antivirus software Kaspersky Free and it was immediately available in the United States, Canada, and several Asia Pacific countries and would launch in other regions in the coming months.
Free version offers only the bare essentials such as email and web antivirus protection and automatic updates.The company has been working on Kaspersky Free for 18 months, a development phase that included pilot versions in several markets including Russia, Ukraine, China and Scandinavian countries.

7. Nitish Kumar again sworn in Bihar chief minister

Within Less than 24 hours after resigning from the post of Bihar Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar once again became chief minister of Bihar after he was sworn in on Thursday morning to form a government in the state, and this time with the support of the BJP and the NDA (National Democratic Alliance).
When ceremony was going on, Rashtriya Janata Dal Party workers in Patna set up blockades and protested Nitish forming the government with the BJP.

8. Niti Aayog hires EY, McKinsey, BCG for time-bound tasks

Government think-tank Niti Aayog has hired consultants, including Ernst and Young, McKinsey and Company and Boston Consultancy Group, to provide high quality services for specific and time-bound tasks.
In order to transform health and education in three states, each under Development Support Services for States (DSSS), a consortium of McKinsey and Company and IPE Global, Boston Consultancy Group (BCG) and Piramal Foundation Education have been engaged, respectively,” the minister added.

9. Cabinet clears Minimum Wage Code Bill

The Union cabinet on Wednesday approved the wage code bill that seeks to consolidate a clutch of wage-related labour laws and put in place a national minimum wage floor.
The cabinet nod in a way signals the formal start of the process of consolidating 44 labour laws into four codes that the government has been talking about for the past three years. It also gives momentum to the pending labour law reform process that is being touted as key to enhancing industrial productivity and aiding manufacturing, leading to job creation.

10. SIDBI starts merchant banking operations

Aims to Enhance MSME’s tap Market


Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has started full-fledged merchant banking operations to benefit the expanding number of growth-oriented micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), especially those with a strong technology and innovation quotient.
SIDBI has supported over 125 venture capital funds and thus can provide support for listing the investee companies on SME exchanges through its merchant banking operations.
