1. Ganga Cleanliness Pledge Day to be observed on May 2

The National Mission for Clean Ganga

 

The National Mission for Clean Ganga will observe ‘Ganga Cleanliness Pledge Day’ on May 2 at various places in the river’s basin states to spread awareness and ensure public participation in the programme.

2. Government launches new Test and Treat policy for HIV

HIV destroys the CD4 T cells in the body

 

The government on 28 Apr 17 launched a new policy for HIV under which anyone who is tested and found positive will get the necessary treatment.
HIV destroys the CD4 T cells in the body that strengthen immunity. People with HIV, who have a CD4 cell count below 200, are at significant risk of developing serious illnesses, and the government currently provides free treatment to people with a count of 400 and below.

3. Assam gets its first Shatabdi Express

It will run between Dibrugarh and Guwahati.

 

Assam got its first Shatabdi Express with Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain flagging off the train from Dibrugarh. The new Shatabdi Express train (No. 12085/12086) will run between Dibrugarh and Guwahati.
The Shatabdi Express trains are among the fastest and most prestigious trains of the Indian Railways along with Rajdhani and Duronto trains which connect metro cities with other important cities from the point of view of tourism, pilgrimage or business.

4. Syrian refugee and Olympic swimmer Yusra Mardini becomes UNHCR ambassador

Mardini’s actions saved the lives of 20 refugees

 

Yusra Mardini, a Syrian woman who helped save a boat carrying fellow refugees, has been appointed by the UN agency for refugees as its new Goodwill Ambassador.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said Mardini’s actions saved the lives of 20 refugees who were fleeing the Syrian capital, Damascus.

5. Hero MotoCorp conferred with ‘Indian MNC of the Year’ award by AIMA

India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer

 

Pawan Munjal, Chairman, Managing Director and CEO, Hero MotoCorp Ltd., was felicitated by the All India Management Association (AIMA) for the rapid global expansion of Brand Hero.
Hero MotoCorp, the India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, was adjudged the ‘Indian MNC of the year’ by AIMA at a glittering function in the national capital.
Brand Hero has expanded to 35 countries spread across Asia, Africa and Central and South America in a very short span of time since charting its solo journey in 2011.

6. Google Aims to empower developers from Tier II cities

“Solve for India”

 

Google has announced the new “Solve for India” initiative, especially for tier-2 cities such as Pune, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kochi, Indore, Nagpur, Nashik, Madurai, Kanpur, and Chennai. This program will aim to support entrepreneurs and developers of the country.
The program will provide a platform for developers, entrepreneurs in tier 2 cities to hear from experts and learn about the latest Google technologies and get access to direct mentoring and support from Google.

7. Gujarat celebrates 57th foundation day

“Gujarat Gaurav Divas”

 

Gujarat is celebrating its 57th foundation day May 01.
May 1 foundation day is being celebrated as “Gujarat Gaurav Divas” with series of programs during the day.
Gujarat was formed on May 1, 1960.
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani- has laid foundation stone of 116 infrastructure projects worth of Rs.1600 cr- in Ahmedabad district during this celebrations.
Jivraj Narayan Mehta was the first CM.

8. SA retain top spot, India 3rd

India gained five points

 

India gained five points to move up to the third place with South Africa maintaining its pole position in the latest ICC ODI team rankings.
Australia remained in the second position.
England, which will host the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, has retained its fifth ranking but has moved up one point to 109.

9. Maharashtra Day being celebrated May 1

Maharashtra Aadhaar Act, 2016

 

Maharashtra Day is being celebrated today across the state with great joy and pride.
This year, Maharashtra Day will also be celebrated as Transforming Maharashtra Day.
Maharashtra is the first State in the country to have enacted the Maharashtra Aadhaar Act, 2016 making Aadhaar as the sole identifier of beneficiary for any subsidy or benefit or service.
