In today’s episode we will be going to explore THE HINDU’s editorial “The modern way: mental health law can be used to strengthen primary care” for words with rich vocabulary.

Word 1

Sketchy 

Class : Adjective

Meaning : not thorough or detailed

Synonyms : Incomplete, Inadequate

Antonyms : Complete, Adequate

Example Sentences:

Officials on both sides are refusing to comment, and leaked reports are sketchy and contradictory.

There were far too many fake news stories in 2016 from sketchy sites.

 

Word 2

Grossly 

Class : Adverb

Meaning : in a very obvious and unacceptable manner; flagrantly

Synonyms : Heavy, Massive

Antonyms : Insignificant, Small

Example Sentences:

If you lived in the United States, however, you’d be grossly mistaken.

The attack, it concludes, was grossly disproportionate and was a war crime.

 

Word 3

Evident 

Class : Adjective

Meaning : clearly seen or understood

Synonyms : Obvious, Transparent

Antonyms : Uncertain, Unclear

Example Sentences:

Similar patterns are evident in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

The game continued in a tie until halftime, but Brazil’s dominance was evident.

Meagre 

Class : Adjective

Meaning : of something provided or available lacking in quantity or quality

Synonyms : Deficient, Insufficient

Antonyms : Sufficient, Full

Example Sentences:

The benefits to the North Korean regime are obvious, bringing it hard cash while the workers receive meagre pay for their labour.

Abuse 

Class : Verb

Meaning : use something  to bad effect or for a bad purpose

Synonyms : Misuse, Mishandle

Antonyms : Goodness, Good deed

Example Sentences:

The Sheriff’s Office ticketed the woman on suspicion of child abuse.

There should be a hotline for athletes and others to anonymously report abuse in Olympic sports.
